When I saw the picture on Winona Cross’ blog, it caught my eye and made me focus on the entire post. The dinosaur in the tutu combined two ordinary things in a different way.
Winona’s granddaughter loves dinosaurs, and if you know the little girl is fascinated with paleontology, you can understand how a toy dinosaur would end up dressed to kill.
Stories are much like that dinosaur. They need to be individual to capture a reader’s attention. Winona didn’t sit down and say, “I need something different for my blog post. I think I’ll buy a toy dinosaur, and then make a little outfit for it to wear,” though the result could have been the same.
She looked around, took something that captured her eye, and was already in her world, and shared it. Then the picture pulled my attention to it. Funny how that happens. One bit of out-of-the ordinary in an ordinary world. Just like the novels I enjoy reading.
