The Muddy Colors blog is about art, and I keep going back to it time and time again because the viewpoints of the painters inspire me.
One post demonstrated artists' improvement by uploading a past drawing and a current one from many diffterent artists, along with the date each attempt was made. Viewers could easily see each person's improvement.
Instead of looking at one beautiful drawing and thinking, "Oh, this person was born with a gift," the pictures demonstrated that years of work contributed to the skill.
It's easy for artists to compare themselves with the greatest professionals in their craft and feel discouraged. But they should also compare themselves to the artist they were ten years ago. Or even five years ago.
Practice may not always make perfect, but it can definitely lead to improvement.
